The Tupolev Tu-160 NATO reporting name Blackjack is the world’s largest strategic bomber aircraft from the Soviet Union. The Tu-160 was designed by Tupolev and built by Kazan Aircraft Production Association. It was nicknamed by the pilots as the White Swan because of its maneuverability and anti-flash white finish. The purpose of this aircraft is to deliver nuclear and conventional weapons deep in continental theatres of operation. The aircraft has all-weather, day-and-night capability and can operate at all geographical latitudes. The maiden flight of the Tupolev Tu-160 was on the 19th of December 1981 and it entered service in April 1987. Primary user is the Russian Air Force. There were 35 Tupolev Tu-160 produced and most are still in active services. Cost per unit runs at approx. 200+ million USD.
